Have a few things to go. Today I have a standard white and black round table that has had a fresh coat of paint. Its in desperate need of Shabbying up although I did nit want to spend to much time on it as the top has a slight bend in it. This bend may come out once the top has been bolted onto the base properly. Anyway its a give away for $50 ono !!!

Milked dresser

Wow finaly got to finish the dresser from the shop.
Anyone that went upstairs in onto the Hydrangea Room would have seen it. Unfortunately after the fire we found it had been badly smoked and water damaged, but after lots and lots of time and hard work I have brought it back to life.

It now looks fantastic (if I don't mind saying so myself) I love the milked look although I didn't do it with milk paint. Vicki did buy me some Milk paint powder although I had already started on it with watered down flat acrylic.

The fire did some real surface damage to it, luckily its all solid wood and no man made. The back was pine paneling which I had to take off and throw out because it warped so much with the water and heat.
This is the dresser not long after the fire. You can see the water damage by the white marks and the smoke damage was in everywhere including inside the draws.

So from here it was water blasted and dried then disassembled including removing the glass, knobs, backing, doors ext. Everything was sanded then sanded and then sanded. I then applied the watered down home made milk paint. Then yes more sanding, sanding and sanding till I got this finish. I then applied straight boil linseed oil, let that dry for a few days then about 4 coats if bees wax with steel wool and then cloth.

Looking at now it was worth it ...and it does look better in real life, the image doesn't justify it.

Sorry but this one is't for sale but as a guess a solid heavy timber dresser like this would retail for around $2000 but one milked and displayed like this would be around the 3 mark I think.

Next few weeks will have the table finished that I had posted last. It would have already been finished although I changed the base colour a few times.

Country cottage dinning table

Hi all!
Wow doesn't time fly, I have been working on this small dinning table for some time now and its nearly finished.
It's made from solid pine and is very sturdy. I have rubbed it back and created a milked look for the top.
This was done using watered down white paint and lots of sanding. Thanks god for belt sanders eh!
I then have applied two coats of Cabots clear in satin to protect it.

The base is another story, I first rubbed it back and painted it a green colour but didn't like it so I am now changing it to a cream colour in flat white enamel. I will also be listing some chairs and things that I'm not going to have a chance to start and basically am more interested in doing other things.

As well as doing pieces I am doing renovations on the house and will post some pics.

Note previously I was operating Shabbily Restored as a business, unfortunately i will not be able to offer this anymore due to time, although could do the odd small job.

Check out the table coming up!!

The round table that I posted way back in April is finished YA! Lucinda and Tony came down picked it up and it now resides in their shop The Hume Cottage for sale.
Doesn't it look great in the shop!

Below is the latest finished project. Its a small kitchen table that I have especially got for Lucinda and her shop as she has just sold her one.

Following this I have a job on for and extension table and six chairs for a customer which should take me a couple of weeks. Then it will be onto the curved glass display case which I also posted back in April.

One thing I did notice about this is on closer inspection it looks like a hutch and not a free standing display case, so I'm having second thoughts about fitting the Queen Anne legs and thinking of leaving it as a hutch. It will look great sitting on someones shabby side board or similar, I may even see if I can pick up one for it so I can match the paint style.

I don't have any pics but the Oak dresser which is also nearly finished, I have given it a Milk type finish and then linseed oiled it which has brought out the grain beautifully. Now all I need it some toile in fabric or even printed paper to finish it off.

Job update

<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center;

As you can see I had to rebuild the whole wall which took me some time.

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327876423789911234" style="DISPLAY: block; Here is a before pic of the dresser I am doing at present, it was upstairs at the time of the fire and saved. As you can see it still has some good smoke and water damage but nothin I cant fix ;)I'm changing the handles and replacing the pine back paneling with Masonite. One completed but not for sale but the others will be.

A curved glass display cabinet. Restoring and Shabby including fitting Queen Ann legs using a few contrasting colours and a crackle medium.

A Oak dresser. Smoke damaged, restoring and milking. This has such a beautiful grain I did not have the heart to cover it up although I have to seal in any smoke smell. So thought milking would be the best option and then using linseed oil to bring out the grain, then seal it with wax.
This is going into our kitchen and replacing our current pine dresser that will be Shabbied up and sold.

Things are bit slow also because as well as doing these at present I am still working on Vicki's studio including fitting another window.

Oh yeah also I now have to spend some time working on my ute as it failed rego and requires some rust work. sooooooo bit busy. Tring to prioritise things is hard but found by doing a few pieces at once is much more fun.

I will post some more before and after picks of everything latter but may not have one of the oak dresser for some reason although will check the fire pic archive.

Hi all.. this is a bit of test to see if I have fixed the image issue but mainly to show my bedside chest of draws for sale which are are now in Lacinda's shop Hume Cottage.

Doesn't it look geat all dressed up in her shop!

More pics

Vicki decided that she would dress the chest of draws to see how it would look in our house... So I stripped all the black off and started again with an enamel primer before the top coat.

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5314866871919398114" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; I actually thought it would look great sitting in the lounge and being used as a table between two chairs or lamp table.

The colour will be in a semi gloss or mat finish enamel white and although not yet sure of the final finish I am thinking distressed or shabby again.

I was going to do this one full gloss white without the distressing although after closer inspection of the piece decided it would look far better this way.

Thanks for all your encouragement and lovely comments on my work I do appreciate it.

If someone is after a dresser and missed out on the last one I will be doing a bigger one next!!

So if your interested let me know as I can do it to order etc.

Its finished!

Hi all, Its finished!

I finished off the pine dresser today! My Mum was throwing it out and I saw that it still may have some life in it yet.

After removing a bodgy plywood top I found it had a beautiful old hard wood top with lots of character holes and dents in it.

I restored it "Shabby" leaving the top in a raw colour and painted the bottom half pale green using a little crackle paint.

It now resides in our lounge room.

The latest restoration I have completed is a old curved top dresser that survived the fire at our Cafe we had.

1st I had to wash all the soot I could off it, dry it out and then sand it all back before painting.

The problem with this piece is the smell I have found that anything porous absorbed the burnt smell in the fire.

The only solution is to paint it and seal it in which meant several coats of an off white acrylic and a good coat even throughout all the inside. I also added some pale yellow highlights.

2nd is the fun bit of distressing the paint by sanding back where I want to see the wear. Not so much on this one as you can see slightly in the pic.

Lastly is installing the scented draw liners and giving it a coat of wax to seal it good and protect it.

Next post: The latest projects.
